Acupuncture
Anti-coagulation monitoring
Patients who are taking warfarin therapy (a drug used to thin the blood) are able to have their blood and drug monitoring done at the surgery.
Ante-Natal Clinics/Post Natal Visits
Julia Davis our Practice midwife holds clinics on Tuesday afternoons and alternate Wednesday afternoons by appointment, giving specialist advice relating to all aspects of pregnancy.
Blood Pressure Checks
It is recommended that all patients aged 35 years and over should have their blood pressure checked at least every five years. Please make an appointment with one of our Practice Nurses or you can use the pressure room.
Cervical Smears
Women aged 25-64 years are strongly advised to attend for a regular smear. This procedure is carried out by our Practice Nurses.
Childhood Immunisation Clinic
Jane Werrett the Practice Health Visitor holds childhood immunisation clinics on Thursday mornings (9.30-11.30am) by appointment.
Contraceptive Services
We offer family planning advice including requests for emergency contraception and pre-conceptual advice. For all routine contraceptive check-ups please book an appointment with one of the following Nurses - Sr O'Hara, Sr Plummer or Sr Murdoch.
Coronary Heart Disease
Our specialist Heart Disease Nurses see patients with established heart disease at least annually for assessment and advice on their risk factors. You will be invited to attend for an appointment or you can request an appointment if necessary.
Diabetic Clinic
Sr Carole Murdoch sees patients with diabetes by appointment on an afternoon.
Ear Syringing
Patients are advised to apply 2 drops of Olive Oil in the ear(s) twice daily for 7 days. If this does not clear the wax, use for a further 7 days. If it has still not improved please arrange an appointment with the Practice Nurse for syringing.
Flu Vaccination
Each autumn we offer free flu vaccinations to all patients aged 65 years and over and those in the at risk groups; patients with coronary heart disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease incl. asthma, chronic renal disease, patients with immunosuppression and those living in long-stay residential and nursing homes.
Hypertension
Our Practice Nurses see all patients with hypertension on a regular basis, checking their blood pressure is under control and giving advice on their risk factors. The Practice Nurse will liaise with a GP on any adjustments to medication.
Medical Examinations (not covered by the NHS)
Arrange an appointment by contacting reception. You will be required to give some brief details about the examination required. Please be aware there will always be a charge for non-NHS work which you are required to pay at the time of the appointment.
Minor Surgery
Minor surgery is performed at the Practice. These procedures include excisions, removal of cysts, incision biopsies, punch biopsies and cauterisation.
Patient Group
We have a very active patient group which meet quarterly to discuss and be involved with new developments/changes in the practice. If you would like to become involved in this group please contact Helen Seymour.
Pneumococcal Immunisation
Pneumococcal immunisation is also available to all patients over 65 years and other at risk patients.
Respiratory Disease
Sr Mary O'Hara sees patients with asthma and other chronic respiratory disease at various session times by appointment. Please attend when requested or make an appointment as required. Please bring all inhalers, spacer devices and your peak flow meter if these have been prescribed.
Shared Care
Patients receiving medication for Prostate Cancer and Rheumatoid Arthritis can have their therapy monitored at the surgery.
Smoking Cessation
Advice on giving up smoking is available by making an appointment with the Practice Nurse.
Travel Advice/Vaccinations
We offer a full vaccination and travel advice service. Please make a 30 minute appointment with the Practice Nurse to discuss which vaccinations are recommended at least eight weeks before travel. Some vaccinations incur a charge as they are not funded by the NHS. The Practice Nurse will inform you about this.
